The Village of Baltimore will be celebrating Arbor Day on May 1, 2011 with two separate planting ceremonies. The first planting will take place in Basil Park at 2:00 p.m. The tree for Basil Park was donated by Keller Farms, and will be planted by Daisy Scouts and Brownies from Baltimore area Girl Scout troops. The ceremony is hosted by the Baltimore Downtown Restoration Committee (BDRC) and the Baltimore Tree Commission. Refreshments from the BDRC will be served following the planting. In addition, tree seedlings will be given away by the
Baltimore Rotary Club.
The second planting of the day will occur at Johnson Park at 4:00. Several trees have been purchased for Johnson Park thanks to the generosity of students at Liberty Union Elementary School. The students held a hat day fundraiser in early April and raised over $350. The winning class will enjoy a pizza party, and many of the students, along with Mayor Robert Kalish will be on hand to help plant the trees.
